Scenario 7
How to Prevent Unsecure
WLAN Networks Being Setup
within the Business?
Scenario briefing
During the site-survey and deployment stage, several un-
identified access points in the neighborhood are discovered
and identified. They may pose a threat to the company
if the staff unknowingly connect to those APs without
realizing the risk and implications of the breach in security.
It could result in the leakage of business confidential data to
premeditated hackers.
The ZyXEL NXC5200 takes this risk into consideration by
offering a rogue AP detection and containment feature.
Firstly, the IT manager can commission a number of
the access points as monitors which scan the WLAN for
unidentified APs and can then classify them as friendly or
rogue APs. Furthermore, the monitoring AP can also break
off the connection attempt of guest or employee WLAN
clients when they try to establish a connection and associate
with one of the rogue APs. In this way, the NXC5200 adds
additional security enhancements as part of the proposition
to secure the WLAN edge of the network.
