HSD: PowerScan, OCR Servant and HSD Spell (English & Spanish)
Paid over US$1500 for these and HSD's Scan-X Color system with paper feeder. Can scan, OCR and spell check
25 pages at a time. All the documentation that came with them.
Dancing Bear Enterprises: MAiLBACK v1.0
A procmail type commercial app that can be used to automatically and in complex ways respond to emails.
MetroSoft: Simon Says 1.5.1
A speech recognition app. Probably much more useful with a current technology noise cancelling mic/headset. Can
go through the functions of most apps with voice commands.
SmartSoft: Stay In Touch
Useful address book that can easily be used for many other things. This is a demo with license string for a 15 or 30
minute session. Dials, faxes, emails, prints labels or envelopes.
Wolfram Research: Mathematica 2.1.0 (two)
This is part of a NeXT bundle kit and I have two of them. One is still sealed. Each includes two 2.88MB floppies
in a heavy vinyl pouch, Release Notes, NeXT Computer installation, Related Products and Services (in a sleeve),
Registration Documents (another sleeve). The packages are cardboard and a color cover with the items above in
between and shrinkwrapped together. I didn't really have a need for it, especially since at that time the interesting
frontends were large and had to be downloaded off the internet over a dial-up connection.
NeXT Related CD-ROM's
Solutions Suite for NeXTSTEP/OpenStep - a CD of demo apps using a very good interface. Published by GS
Corporation and includes their apps, such as eXTRAREAD a full featured OCR app.
Solutions Suite v1n1 July 1994 - booklet with a page for each app
Solutions Suite v1n2 Fall 1994 - booklet with a page for each app (two)
Solutions Suite v1n3 Summer 1995 - no booklet in this issue
Big Green CD - Published by Skylee Press and was the best resource of freeware/shareware NeXTSTEP/
OpenStep apps and newsgroup archives, especially prior to the PEAK and Peanuts internet sites. Beginning with
BGCD 5 it came with two CD's - Applications/Source Code and Library (literature, NeXTAnswers, news, fonts,
graphics, etc.). BGCD 6 began the addition of a Developer CD to the other two CD's. The BGCD 8 set includes
the Lighthouse Design apps and FAQs, the then current GNUstep 0.5.0, Misckits, Frameworks, sendmail, etc. It
even has some Rhapsody tools. The early editions cost US$100 and as mastering costs lowered the last three CD
set was only about US$50. I know the publisher and have asked if he can find copies of the two BGCD's that I
don't have so that I could pass along a complete set.
BGCD's 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 & 8
Ensuing Technologies - The first inexpensive (US$30) CD-ROM of NeXTSTEP apps. Over 350 apps, including
some demos
The Fatted Calf
Isomedia - A collection of images, games, demos, sounds, tools, etc. from internet sites at the time. All articles on it
have been indexed for use with Digital Librarian. It was an US$80 alternative to downloading all these from the
internet.
